French Toast with Apple Compote

French toast is always easy to make, which is one of the things we love about it. This French toast is elevated by the tea loaf and silky apple compote and is still ridiculously easy to make! Great as a brunch item, but works for any time of the day!

  • 4 slices tea loaf
    Wet Batter
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 ½ tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla essence
    Compote mix
  • 1 apple, sliced
  • Whole cloves
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • ½ Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp almonds

Description

You will need:

  • frying pan
  • oil

Directions

For the compote

  1. On a medium heat, add the compote mix into a pan and cook for 1 minute
  2. Increase heat to high and add water and cook until the fruit becomes tender and the sauce is at the thickness you prefer. Alternatively, you can mash the apples up, add a pinch of cinnamon, a splash of water, add sugar to taste and you have yourself a simple apple sauce for your French toast!
    For the French toast
  3. While your compote is cooking down, whisk the eggs, sugar, milk and vanilla essence for a few seconds in a bowl
    1. Dip the bread into the egg mixture for about 3 seconds on each side
    2. Fry on medium heat for about 2-3 minutes each side or until golden brown
    3. Spoon your compote or apple sauce over your French toast, top with the almonds and enjoy!
